Artist biography
Born In Caracas, Venezuela in 1966, Bolivar graduated from Central Saint Martins ( BA Hons. Painting ) in 1988. In 2003 he obtained an MA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College where he received the Warden's Award.
In 2003 his work was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition as part of a selected group of young emerging artists. In 2004 Bolivar's work was included in 'New British Painting' part II at The John Hansard Gallery in Southampton, and his work has been selected for the 2007 'EAST International'
Bolivar's work is in private collections in the U.K and Switzerland. His work has also been purchased by Ernst & Young, Goldsmith's College, The University of the Arts Collection and The Government Art Collection, when it was exhibited in 2004 at 10, Downing Street a part of the collections recent purchases.
Future projects include solo shows with the Lucy Mackintosh Gallery in Lausanne/Switzerland and The John Hansard Gallery in Southampton.
Since 2001 Bolivar has curated thirteen contemporary art exhibitions in temporary locations, project spaces and commercial galleries. He is also a visiting lecturer at the Royal Academy Schools.
Bolivar's work deals with abstraction and formalism as a language reconfigured into comical fantasy visions.
